The American Idol Success Story

American Idol, which debuted in June of 2002, has been one of the biggest hit shows on television since it started airing in the United States. American Idol is originally a spin-off of a British show called Pop Idol, produced by Simon Fuller. The Show was first turned down by Fox and then made its debut because of Rupert Murdock’s daughter, who really enjoyed the show in the United Kingdom. American Idol’s first season wasn’t record breaking as far as ratings go for television shows, but somehow the phenomenon caught on. American Idol’s success has soared ever since.

After its debut in the United States it was rated as the number 30 out of all television shows that year. That’s great for an overall spot for a new show. In the second season the show jumped from the 30th spot to the 5th spot in its time slot. From then on the show has been dominating the number 1 spot, falling to the number 2 only once. If you are looking for a success story to follow, American Idol’s television success not only measures in high rating but also in sponsorship. With big sponsors like AT&T, Coca-Cola and Apple iTunes, American Idol brings in top dollar for being the top rated show. It costs at least 700,000 thousand dollars per each 30 second commercial spot.

Even the idols have been successful because of the show's huge success. From Kelly Clarkson to Carrie Underwood, even runner ups like Jennifer Hudson have had lot of success due to their time on American Idol. American Idol is most definitely a wide spread success.
